Coasting Sailorman
Captain ‘Harry’ Bagshaw

Albert Bagshaw and Richard Walsh

SECOND HAND – FAIR
1988

‘Harry’ Bagshaw kept notes of his experiences, the cargoes carried and the freight rates earned, throughout his career afloat. He spent 30 years at sea and, when in command of the 190 ton sailing barge Scone, one of the last of her type to be built, scoured the UK coastline and the Continent for hard won cargoes, whilst coping with some of the worst weather ever experienced around this island nation. Includes first hand recollections of wartime service on the Clyde.
